A good DM should always be ready to spring a surprise on his party of adventurers.
Todays self-portrait is a tribute to the co-creator of 'Dungeons and Dragons', Gary Gygax, who died yesterday. 'Dungeons and Dragons' was the original fantasy role-playing game and, although I had been wargaming for a few years before it came out, its publication changed the way I saw and played games, brought me lasting friendships and did much to inspire the interests I still have today.
Depicted is the 'classic' dungeon expedition - a magic-user, a fighter, a cleric and a thief*.
UPDATE: I forgot to say. It is, of course, through 'Dungeons and Dragons' that I came across Kobolds. So, by a tortuous, indirect route, Gary Gygax is responsible for my user ID :-)
*Although purists will know that the thief wasn't in the original three-book set; they didn't appear until the 'Greyhawk' supplement was published.
